Aquilegia Vulgaris is an early flowering perennial that flowers in late spring and early summer. Bell shaped blooms that are generally Blue, pink or white in colour. Quite an easy plant to look after and needs very little care and attention. The seeds can be poisonous if ingested so care should be taken, but if you avoided all poisonous plants then the garden would be quite bare. Aquilegia seeds will spread quite quickly and can be a little invasive if you're not careful. Generally I will let the smaller plants grow on a while and then remove and pot them on to either give to friends or replant elsewhere In the garden.
The foliage is quite easy to recognise. Below is a quite mature plant with lots of leaves. Over all a great plant to have in the garden, There are also many different cultivars but some of these are biennials so just bear this in mind when buying, some of the more colourful cultivars can be quite pricey.
