Another plant that needs very little care and attention. Lilies can be planted in the spring, but to give them a head start plant in the autumn. Plant around 8-10 inches in the ground to make sure they can anchor themselves securely in the ground, this will support the tall stems the plant will produce, however you should also support the stem as the flower will be very heavy for the plant. Take care not to skewer the bulb if using a cane. Once the flower has finished remove the head so all the goodness goes back into the bulb for next year, the same also applies for the foliage, allow to naturally die down, the bulb will thank you for it.
Be aware of pests, the most common is the dreaded Lilly Beetle, which is bright red and easy to spot. If seen remove and dispatch in whichever way you deem fit. Be also aware that the plant is poisonous, so bear this in mind if you have animals or small children around the plant and flowers. 15/5/2020 0 Comments Picture Of The Day
