9/4/2020 0 Comments Garden Project, Part 2.Now to start the work, so to removing all the weeds from the slate, a long laborious task I have to say, There were more Celandine's than grass in a lawn, I think i will be seeing them in my dreams..... The digging has commenced, the removal of the slabs, all i have to replace them is some old building blocks which have been at the side of the house for the last 25 years. But in the current climate I am limited with what I have available, unfortunately I am unable to go to the local hardware store to get anything else. The blocks themselves are not in the best condition, in fact one has the corner missing from it, however, they are the perfect fit, running along from the raised bed to the gravel board on the fence. I have also started to redo the bricks around the base of the greenhouse, In the left of the picture above you can see the slabs that were originally holding the soil back, I have laid on the top of the blocks to act as a step and be more secure as a retaining wall. Considering the limited materials, the finish will be quite good I think, of course you can always correct me on that. Below the wall is finished, The slabs could do with a bit of a clean, which will be done later, On the right the first part of the old hurdle fencing has been removed and now the bricks need to be e and relaid on their sides, I will not however be cementing them down, mainly as if I need to remove them again, there will be no cement to remove, also, later on in the year, I may wish to change the bricks into something else when the hardware stores re open. Before doing the bricks around the bed, I will finish the bricks around the base of the greenhouse, I want to make sure the air gap is uninterrupted and filling with stones, again it is probably not the best fix, but with nothing else to use, it will have to make do for the time being. Although digging out the stones and laying the bricks on the mud, the stones will eventually stick, giving a few months at least before they probably fall over. The final result below of the wall and the bricks around the base of the greenhouse, the next phase is the bricks around the actual flower bed. To be continued....
