Calendula, from the Marigold family. Easy to grow and will provide lots of bright Yellows and Orange through the summer and long into the autumn. At the end of the season you can cut them back and leave them in the ground and they will probably survive through the winter. Then in the spring cut them back to the new growth once it begins to show. Easy to grow from seed and will also self seed around the area they are in if the dead heads are not removed.
Above and below are examples of the foliage, the picture below is a second year Calendula. It is slightly woody, i will trim it back to the new growth on the main stem to encourage more new sprouts of growth. Never be too afraid to cut back plants when they need it, usually it will do them good. If your not sure then just ask.
