The foliage of Lychnis Coronaria

Lychnis Coronaria is a great plant for a summer bed, It has lovely silver felty leaves and in the flowering season throws up multi headed flower spikes with pink, purple or white flowers.

Usually a short lived perennial, sometimes only lasting a few years before dying, however the plant is a prolific seeder so there will always be plenty of new young plants to replace them. Again, if you do not want the new plants, remove, or pot on to give to freinds and neighbours.

At the end of the season the flower spikes will need to be cut back, this is when the seeds will go everywhere, usally all over you. Cut the spikes all the way to the base and remove any leaves that are dead.  In the spring there may also be some leaves after the winter that will need to be removed, do not worry to much if the plant looks a little bare, it will soon sprout new leaves.
