Primula Auricula

The foliage of Auricula is above

Primula Auricula is well known amogst gardeners as a show plant, usually they are in small pots and show them in theatres,  these are tiered wooden shelving and the Auricuals are kept in pots of the shelves. A great idea, but I have them in the garden, I have them in a rock garden which is in some shade during the day, during hot periods they should be watered frequently to make sure they do not dry out.

Once the blooms have faded they can be cut back, division should be done after the blooms have faded to give the young plants as much time as possible before the winter, also enusre the pot and compost allows for drainage as Auriculas are prone to rotting. the plant will have offsets coming of the main plant, these are the ones that should be removed, pull the plant apart to remove the offsets, ensure they have roots and a shoot. any parts of the plant that are withered or soft can be discarded.

Always ensure the plant does not get water logged.
